Scottish Water Horizons Inspires Pupils in Dunbar

14 October 2025

Project Manager Zach Roche and Senior Engagement and Communications Lead Alastair Kerr visited Dunbar Primary School this week. They spoke to around 900 pupils across two campuses about the £2 million project taking place in Dunbar. The work aims to support future development and reduce the risk of sewer flooding in the area. George Leslie Ltd is delivering the project on behalf of Scottish Water Horizons.

Zach said, “It was fantastic to speak to so many enthusiastic pupils and explain the work happening right on their doorstep. The local community has been incredibly patient while construction has been underway, so it was great to help the children and their families understand why this project matters.”

Throughout the sessions, pupils learned about site safety and, in addition, discussed the 3 P’s (pee, poo, and paper), the water cycle, and the importance of water conservation.

Alastair added, “The pupils were really engaged. Their enthusiasm was fantastic, and they showed a real interest in how water reaches their homes and what we can all do to look after it.”

The project, which commenced in June this year, is now nearing completion. The sewer network upgrade will help strengthen local infrastructure and support Scottish Water’s wider commitment to building more sustainable and climate-resilient communities.
