Graduates Help Inspire
Young Innovators at FunSTEM
14 August 2025
Two of our talented graduates supported this year’s FunSTEM, a hands-on education initiative led by Clyde Gateway.
Held in Glasgow’s East End, the programme brings STEM (science, technology, engineering, and maths) to life for local school pupils, challenging them to come up with imaginative ways to generate and use energy. From trampoline-powered generators to solar bikes and treadmill turbines, the ideas were bold, original, and refreshingly unconstrained.

Representing Scottish Water Horizons were two of our Specialist Graduates, Kasi Hamitouche and Lewis Rands, who are both currently working in our renewables portfolio. Volunteering as assessors, they spent the morning reviewing posters and models, listening to student pitches, and helping teams feel confident presenting their ideas.
Kasi, who joined us in 2024, reflected on his experience: “It was such a brilliant day. FunSTEM pushed me outside my comfort zone in the best way. I’d never done anything like this before but seeing how the pupils approached the challenge was really inspiring.
“Their enthusiasm and ambition were contagious. I’d definitely recommend this kind of volunteering to others. It’s fun, rewarding, and a great way to give something back.”
Lewis, who also joined through our graduate programme, was struck by the openness of the pupils’ thinking: “The creativity in the room was amazing. The pupils didn’t have any mental roadblocks – they just kept building on their ideas.
“It really reminded me that sometimes, especially in innovation, you need to let go of the details at first and just run with the concept. The day was full of energy and positivity, and it was a real privilege to be part of something that helps young people with their futures.”

This year’s FunSTEM was the biggest so far, and a powerful reminder of how early engagement in STEM can build confidence, curiosity, and problem-solving skills. Pupils weren’t just learning about clean energy – they were designing, building and pitched their own solutions.
At Scottish Water Horizons, we love to support initiatives such as FunSTEM because they make STEM relatable and exciting. They help young people see how their ideas can make a difference and give them the tools to start doing just that.
Congratulations to everyone who took part, and a huge thanks to Clyde Gateway for leading such a fantastic programme.
