Modern Apprentice Wins Big at 2025 Scottish Pipeline Industry Guild Competition
It’s been an incredible year for Cameron Clark, one of our talented Modern Apprentices, who’s just taken home top prize at the 2025 Scottish Pipeline Industries Guild Professional Development Network Annual Paper and Presentation Competition. This follows his recent accolade as Net Zero Scottish Apprentice of the Year – an impressive double win.
Cameron’s journey is a brilliant example of the value apprentices bring to the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors – not just as learners, but as innovators.

His success builds on the achievements of Zac Mooney, another of our Modern Apprentices, who won the same competition in 2024 and went on to claim the national award. It’s fantastic to see two years of back-to-back wins, showing the abilities and creativity of our apprentices.
At this year’s Pipeline Industry Guild competition, Cameron impressed the judges with his presentation, “Harnessing Green Energy from Non-Operational Reservoirs and Pipelines.” His proposal showed how ‘abandoned or redundant’ infrastructure across our asset base is being repurposed to generate renewable energy to support Scotland’s net zero goals and drive the circular economy.
The judging panel commended Cameron for his confidence of delivery, use of audience participation and site-specific details. His work shows that apprentices aren’t just learning – they’re helping to lead real change.
Cameron said: “I’m really proud to have won. This portfolio of projects showed me how much potential there is in looking at things differently. As a Modern Apprentice, it’s exciting to be trusted to explore ideas like this and see them taken seriously. A special mention to John Lenehan and Marcella French for their time, patience, and unwavering support that has been instrumental in making all this achievable.”

On top of his recent wins, Cameron has also been invited to join the Scottish Apprenticeship Advisory Board’s Apprentice Engagement Group. This group brings together current and former apprentices from across Scotland to act as ambassadors. In this new role, Cameron will help promote the benefits of apprenticeships to future learners, employers, and families across the country.
John Lenehan, Project Manager, added: “Supporting Cameron as he prepared for this presentation was a real privilege. His drive and openness to feedback made it a true team effort. He’s a brilliant example of what apprenticeships are all about – learning, pushing boundaries, and bringing new energy to the industry. We’re all incredibly proud of what he and all our Modern Apprentices in Horizons are achieving.”
Cameron’s achievements this year highlight not just the success of one apprentice, but the growing importance of apprenticeships in building a greener, more innovative Scotland. His story is one of hard work, fresh thinking, and the impact young professionals can have when given the opportunity to lead.
