Cameron Clark Named
Net Zero Scottish Apprentice of the Year!
03 March 2025
At Scottish Water Horizons, we’re committed to helping Scotland achieve net zero and beyond – and it’s passionate, driven individuals who will make it happen. Cameron Clark is one of them. His dedication to renewable energy and carbon reduction has earned him the well-deserved title of Net Zero Scottish Apprentice of the Year. It’s clear why.

A Well-Deserved Win
Cameron, who hails from Paisley, has already been making his mark in renewables. Since joining as a Modern Apprentice in Project Management just over a year ago, he has played a key role in some of our biggest solar PV and hydropower projects, helping to cut emissions and boost our renewable energy efforts.
Looking back on his journey, Cameron said: “Winning this award is absolutely incredible. I’ve had the chance to work on projects that genuinely make a difference, and it’s been fantastic to see the impact firsthand. Being part of Scottish Water’s sustainability efforts has been a real privilege, and I’m excited to keep pushing forward.
“I couldn’t have done this without the amazing team around me – my colleagues, line manager and fellow apprentices have all played a huge part in helping me develop my skills and knowledge. Their guidance and encouragement have been invaluable, and I’m so grateful to be part of such a forward-thinking and supportive environment.”
Recognising Apprenticeship Excellence
Cameron received his award at a special event organised by Skills Development Scotland to celebrate Scottish Apprenticeship Week, which ran from 3 – 7 March. The event marked the beginning of a week-long celebration featuring hundreds of events and activities across the country, showcasing the benefits of apprenticeships for businesses, individuals, and Scotland’s economy.

One of Cameron’s biggest achievements was helping to deliver 1,100 solar panels near Falkirk. He took charge of pre-start meetings, managed contractors, and made sure everything ran smoothly – delivering the project on time, on budget, and to the highest safety standards. This system now generates 0.64 GWh of clean energy each year, cutting 84 tonnes of CO₂ – a big step towards our net zero goals.
Making Sustainability Second Nature
For Cameron, sustainability isn’t just a box to tick – it’s built into everything he does. Whether it’s sourcing low-carbon materials, improving biodiversity at project sites, or finding smarter ways to cut waste, he’s always looking for ways to go further. At our renewables site in Moffat, his careful planning helped minimise environmental impact, while at Irvine, he is currently working with ecologists to put wildlife protection measures in place.

Cameron’s line manager, Ian Piggott, has seen his dedication first-hand: “Cameron has gone above and beyond in every project he’s taken on. He’s got a real passion for sustainability, and his leadership skills are already shining through. This award is well deserved, and I can’t wait to see what he achieves next.”
So what’s next for Cameron? More responsibility, bigger projects, and an even greater impact. He’s set to lead new solar energy initiatives, expand biodiversity plans, and help drive forward low-carbon heat from waste water initiatives.
Cameron’s story proves how powerful apprenticeships can be – not just for kickstarting careers, but for making a real difference. And with him on board, our net zero future looks even brighter.
